mom's chili and...
Love in a jar. Shane's favorite bread is banana bread. I knew, when my friend Rachel emailed me a link on how to make cake that lasts, that I would be making this for Shane. If you follow the directions you can make this bread and it will last a year in the jar! A year! Why? For when you take it out of the oven (you bake it in the jars) you immediately put the lids on and the heat causes it to seal...just like canning! It was the best sound today when I heard the pops minutes after pulling them from the oven. Then, of course, I had to decorate it a little. I can't send them plain looking~ what fun is that?
I also made some of my mom's chili. I add different beans and corn but it's the same recipe otherwise. I love it. It reminds me of her. She always made chili in the cool months and usually we'd be watching a Washington Redskin game. My kids love it. I love it. The only person missing is Shane. He is in Kuwait right now picking up an Apache. He has been overworked. He woke up the other morning at 330am and didn't get off work until 930 that night. Then he had to get up in seven hours and fly to Kuwait. He's whooped. I can't wait until he gets home on R&R so I can spoil him a little bit. I need to get started on the Carmen Electra DVD.
My kids had their bowling tournament Saturday morning. Devin did real good. She was consistent for her team and averaged fourty above her average. Drake on the other hand well let's just say not so good. First game he bowled a 34. Second game a 56. After which I found him in the bathroom crying. I gave him my lucky penny (just pulled it out of my wallet), gave him some of what I knew Shane's advice would be, and make him drink lots of water. Third game he bowled a 179!!! I don't know how you go from one extreme to the other but you do. I know that soon he will be a 200+ bowler. Last week he was averaging 150's then on Wednesday he got over 160, and then yesterday 179. He's got some of Shane's skill there. Sad for me but both my kids can beat me at bowling, which is hard for me cos I'm a bit competitive. I could never beat Shane so when I had kids I had someone to beat-sad-I know.
So now it's one hour until kickoff. Go Seattle! I'm wearing my lucky scrapbooking socks today just for the occasion. Do any of you have something you wear that just makes you feel more creative, productive, lucky, like Superman's suit, or even sexy? My socks are orange stripped and don't match much but I love to wear them when I need that extra something. Gosh I love Sunday's where nothing is important except making something good for our bellies, watching a little football, and having an afternoon nap if desired! Nice.

I love the jars!! Very cute. Shane is lucky to have such a creative wife. That's quite a spread in bowling scores, but WOW a 179!! He'll have a perfect game in no time. See you at the gym??
Cute job with the jars... you're such a good Mom to give him a lucky penny and some "knock your socks off" advice. Looks like it worked!
and damn those Steelers.
What a neat way to bake the bread! I'm sure Shane will love it. Sorry to hear that he's so overworked. Maybe that way he's too busy to miss home? At least when you're busy time goes by more quickly.
